-
In a small saucepan, melt butter with milk over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Add eggs and vanilla extract to the milk mixture and whisk until well combined.
-
Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
-
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
In the meantime, prepare the filling by combining brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and sea salt in a small bowl.
-
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle.
-
Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
-
Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
-
Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
-
Cover the dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Bake the sticky buns for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
-
While the buns are baking, prepare the burnt caramel by heating granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until it melts and turns amber in color.
-
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in butter until melted.
-
Slowly pour in heavy cream while stirring constantly.
-
Return the saucepan to heat and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the caramel thickens slightly.
-
Remove the buns from the oven and pour the caramel sauce over them.
-
Sprinkle sea salt on top.
-
Let the sticky buns cool for a few minutes before serving.
