Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a baking dish with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together, stirring until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the dish for about 30 minutes.
