Sticky buns are believed to have originated in Germany and were brought to the United States by German immigrants.

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and milk together over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Add the egg to the butter and milk mixture and whisk until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin.
  8. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the filling.
  9. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  10. Spread the filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  11. Sprinkle chopped pecans over the filling.
  12. Starting from the long side, tightly roll up the dough into a log.
  13. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place each piece into a muffin cup.
  14. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  15. While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar and milk together until smooth.
  16. Remove the buns from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  17. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns.
  18. Serve and enjoy!
