Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar mixture, stirring until well combined.

In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the chocolate mixture, stirring until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the dish for 30 minutes.
