  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chopped pecans.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt the butter for the topping over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and rum until smooth.
  7. Spoon the topping over each muffin.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
