  1. In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks.
  3. Gradually whisk the milk mixture into the egg yolks.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract.
  6. In a serving dish, layer the vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding mixture. Repeat the layers.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  8. Before serving, top with whipped cream and garnish with additional banana slices and vanilla wafers.
