Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the mashed bananas to the butter mixture, mixing well.

Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the banana mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until smooth and creamy.

Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost them with the cream cheese frosting.
