Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
-
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently for a minute. Roll out the dough into a circle large enough to fit the cake pan.
-
Place the dough in the prepared cake pan and press it down to cover the bottom and sides.
-
In a bowl, mix the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the dough.
-
Roll out the remaining dough and cut it into strips. Arrange the strips in a lattice pattern over the apple filling.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
-
Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
