  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan. Arrange half of the sliced apples on top, then sprinkle with half of the walnuts. Repeat the layers with the remaining batter, apples, and walnuts.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the torte to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove the sides of the springform pan and transfer the torte to a wire rack to cool completely.
