  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut into squares.
  4. Place an apple slice on each square and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Fold the pastry over the apple and seal the edges.
  6. Place the dumplings in a baking dish.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and add vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the butter mixture over the dumplings.
  9. In a separate saucepan, bring water to a boil and pour over the dumplings.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes.
  12. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
