  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into quarters.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into four equal squares.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Place an apple quarter in the center of each puff pastry square.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture over the apple quarters.
  7. Add a small piece of butter and a few drops of vanilla extract on top of each apple quarter.
  8. Fold the corners of the puff pastry squares towards the center, covering the apple completely.
  9. Place the dumplings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. In a small saucepan, heat the water and remaining brown sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  11. Pour the sugar syrup over the dumplings.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
