Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Sprinkle ice water over the mixture and toss with a fork until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the sliced apples, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a circle. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a border around the edges. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, creating a rustic crust.
  7. Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Allow the crostatas to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
