  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the milk.
  6. Pour half of the batter into a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
  7. Arrange the sliced apples on top of the batter and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  8. Pour the remaining batter over the apples.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
