Shred the cabbage, dice the potatoes, and chop the onion.

In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it becomes translucent.

Add the shredded cabbage and cook until it wilts, about 5 minutes.

In a separate saucepan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.

In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the cabbage mixture, followed by half of the diced potatoes. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the top.
