Did you know that the first chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938? She added chopped up chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies, but instead, the chocolate stayed in chunks, creating the first ever chocolate chip cookie!

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix well.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
