  1. Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy using an electric mixer.
  3. Gradually add the granulated sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold in the almond extract and ground almonds.
  5. Spoon the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming small mounds.
  6. Sprinkle the powdered sugar and sliced almonds over the mounds.
  7. Bake for 5 hours, or until the meringues are dry and crisp.
  8. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool in the oven for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
