Cherry Almond Meringues
Meringues are believed to have originated in Switzerland and were named after the Swiss village of Meiringen.
This is vegetarian and gluten free recipe. Dish can be prepared in 140 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 6.

Preheat the oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.

Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold in the almond extract and salt.

Spoon the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming small nests.

Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the meringues are crisp and dry.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 30 minutes.

Once cooled, fill each meringue nest with cherry pie filling.

Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
