  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the custard mixture into individual ramekins or a baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
  8. Place the ramekins or baking dish in a larger baking pan.
  9. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins or baking dish.
  10. Carefully transfer the pan to the preheated oven.
  11. Bake for 30 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  12. Remove the custard from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for 10 minutes.
  13. Remove the ramekins or baking dish from the water bath and let the custard cool completely.
  14. Refrigerate the custard for at least 1 hour before serving.
  15. Serve chilled and enjoy!
