Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together.

In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract together.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar mixture, stirring until well combined.

In another bowl, sift the flour, cocoa powder, and salt together.

Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and stir until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into a greased and lined baking dish.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brownies to cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
