Tater Tots were invented in 1953 by Ore-Ida founders F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg as a way to use up leftover potato scraps.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is softened.
  3. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  4. Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish.
  6. Top with a layer of tater tots.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  9. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.
