Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
The first chocolate chip cookie was created by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s when she added chopped chocolate to a cookie recipe. This accidental invention eventually led to the creation of the iconic chocolate chip cookie we know today.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
