Chocolate chip cookies were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938. She added chopped up chocolate to a cookie recipe, expecting the chocolate to melt and create a chocolate cookie. Instead, the chocolate pieces stayed intact, creating the first chocolate chip cookies.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Sprinkle sea salt flakes on top of each cookie.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are slightly soft.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
