Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and spread them evenly in the greased baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins over the bread cubes.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and raisins. Press down gently to ensure all the bread cubes are soaked.
  6. Allow the bread pudding to rest for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
  7. Dot the top of the bread pudding with small pieces of butter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm, optionally with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
