Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a square baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the red food coloring and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Stir in the white vinegar.
