Raisins have been enjoyed as a snack for thousands of years and were even used as a form of currency in ancient times.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the milk and raisins until a soft dough forms.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1 minute.

Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter.

Place a spoonful of raisin filling in the center of each circle.

Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.

Place the pockets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brush the tops with beaten egg.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
