  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Grease a baking dish with butter and pour the pudding mixture into it.
  6. Sprinkle ground nutmeg on top.
  7. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan filled with hot water.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes or until the pudding is set.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 1 hour.
  10. Serve warm or chilled.
