  3. Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.

  5. In a separate saucepan, heat the milk until warm.
  6. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle half of the sautéed onion and garlic mixture over the potatoes.
  8. Sprinkle half of the grated cheddar cheese over the potatoes.
  9. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onion and garlic mixture, and cheddar cheese.
  10. Pour the warm milk over the layers.
  11. Season with salt, black pepper, and parsley.
  12. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
