  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the plums, breadcrumbs, butter, and brown sugar. Mix well and set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and milk. Pour this mixture over the plum mixture and stir until well combined.
  4. Stir in the raisins, currants, candied peel, and brandy or rum.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it rest in the pan for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the pudding from the pan and serve warm.
