  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the chocolate cookie crumbs and melted butter until well combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch (23 cm) springform pan to form the crust.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the melted chocolate until well combined. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust in the springform pan.
  5. Bake for 60 minutes or until the center is set. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  6. Run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the cheesecake, then remove the sides of the pan. Let the cheesecake cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  8. Before serving, spread the cherry pie filling over the top of the cheesecake. Garnish with whipped cream.
  9. Slice and serve.
