  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and unsalted butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped pecans.
  7. Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
