  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Press one half into the bottom of a greased 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.
  6. Spread the dulce de leche evenly over the dough. Top with the remaining dough, pressing gently to seal the edges.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, spread whipped cream over the top of the cake. Slice and serve.
