Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and onions.

Repeat the layers until all the potatoes and onions are used.

Pour any remaining butter over the top layer.

Remove the lid or foil and sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the top.

Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.
