  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Slice the onions.
  3. Heat butter in a pan and sauté the onions until caramelized.
  4. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.
  5. Place the caramelized onions on the buttered side of 4 bread slices.
  6. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and grated cheese over the onions.
  7. Cover with the remaining bread slices, buttered side up.
  8. Place the sandwiches on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
