Nutella was created in the 1940s by Pietro Ferrero, an Italian pastry maker, during World War II when cocoa was scarce. He mixed hazelnuts with cocoa to create a spreadable chocolate paste, which eventually became Nutella.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.
  5. Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners and fill each liner about 2/3 full with the batter.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cupcakes cool completely.
  8. In a separate bowl, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, Nutella, vanilla extract, and milk. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  9. Frost the cooled cupcakes with the Nutella frosting.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
