In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, sugar, and a small amount of the heated milk to create a smooth paste.

Gradually pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan with the remaining milk, whisking constantly.

Continue to cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the Nutella and vanilla extract until well combined.

Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.

Before serving, top each pudding with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
