Milk tart, also known as ‘melktert’ in Afrikaans, is a traditional South African dessert with Dutch origins. It is often enjoyed during special occasions and is a popular treat in South African households.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Prepare the pie crust by rolling it out and placing it in a tart pan.

In a saucepan, heat the milk until just simmering.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and cornstarch.

Slowly pour the hot milk into the sugar mixture, whisking constantly.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.

Gradually add the hot milk mixture to the beaten eggs, whisking constantly.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously.

Remove from heat and stir in the butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Pour the custard into the prepared pie crust.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the custard is set.

Allow the milk tart to cool for 2 hours before serving.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve chilled.
