  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in short intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.
  5. Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. If desired, fold in the walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
