  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  8. Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  9. Remove the malasadas from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. Dust the malasadas with powdered sugar before serving.
