Macaroni and Cheese
Macaroni and cheese originated in Italy and was brought to the United States by Thomas Jefferson. It became popular in the US during the 20th century and is now considered a classic comfort food.

Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens.

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the Cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
