Lemon bars are believed to have originated in the United States and became popular during the 1960s and 1970s.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.

In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the flour and salt until crumbly.

Press half of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

In another bowl, whisk together the lemon zest, lemon juice, and eggs. Pour the mixture over the crust in the baking dish.

Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture evenly over the lemon filling.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow to cool completely in the baking dish before cutting into bars.

Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
