  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground black pepper, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
