Did you know that the first chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s? She added chopped chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate chips held their shape, giving birth to the iconic chocolate chip cookie we know today!

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
