Icebox cookies got their name because they were traditionally stored in the icebox, an early version of the refrigerator, where the dough could be kept chilled and ready to slice and bake whenever desired.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.
  5. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log about 2 inches in diameter.
  6. Wrap the dough logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
