In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes until it comes together. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap. Let it rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the bread shapes. Place the hearts onto the prepared baking sheet.
