Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the molasses and egg.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and then roll each ball in the granulated sugar.
