Grandmothers Southern Squash Puppies

Grate the yellow squash and squeeze out excess moisture.

In a mixing bowl, combine the grated squash, cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, egg, buttermilk, and chopped onion.

Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Drop spoonfuls of the squash mixture into the hot oil and flatten slightly with the back of the spoon.

Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.
