Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and white sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg, followed by the molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
