  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir in the hot water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
