  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the sugar, grated ginger, and orange zest.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times to bring it together.
  6. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch (5 cm) thick. Cut the circle into 8 wedges.
  7. Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes.
  9. Serve warm with a dollop of orange marmalade on top.
