Fudgy Brownies
The first known recipe for brownies appeared in the 1906 edition of the Boston Cooking-School Cook Book.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture and stir until fully incorporated.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.

If desired, stir in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is still slightly gooey.

Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for 30 minutes.

Once cooled, remove the brownies from the pan and cut into squares.
